Take Care of the Fish

Health PSA

College students and their health...

Health is vital part of our lives yet so often neglected, especially by college students. While a college student, I recognized my own personal struggle with taking care of my own health and I knew I wasn't alone. Caring deeply for the struggles of my peers, I created a PSA campaign with the premise of taking care of a pet fish, how it is important to care for the fish’s basic needs everyday, not just every once in a while. I wanted the theme to be humorous so it would not feel like a lecture. I titled the PSA campaign “Take Care of the Fish” - a quick, memorable phrase that students could use a reminder to take care of their basic health needs every day.
With this theme, I created 2 posters with the reminders to eat everyday and to clean up your space since it closely relates to mental health. I also design little reminder cards, postcard sized, that I set out across campus for students to grab.  I also designed some stickers that would also serve as simple, humorous reminders.

Intentional Process

With encouragement
and lots of feedback, I developed 2 posters, 3 postcards, and sticker designs that felt cohesive and memorable.

Pet fish?

This project was daunting: how do I even begin to create a PSA geared towards college students without feeling like a lecture? Coming up with a general theme was difficult, but I landed on the idea of taking care of a pet fish. There was a lot of brainstorming throughout the process, a lot of doubt in my idea too.

How do I communicate a serious topic in a humorous way without losing importance?

I constantly wondered
if anyone would even understand my idea.
Was it actually a good idea or just something
I enjoyed?
